OSHKOSH, Wis.- Addyson Knoebel (Appleton/Appleton West) and
Addyson Edwards (Appleton/Appleton West) both scored goals in the last 10 minutes of Friday (Sept. 4) afternoon's match against Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio), but UW-Oshkosh women's soccer fell to the Lions by a score of 3-2.
The Titans (1-1) played their second match of the season at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Friday. They will play two more matches on their turf before heading on the road for the first time on Saturday, Sept. 12 to face Benedictine University (Ill.) (0-1).
Despite the loss, Oshkosh outshot the Lions (2-0), 17-6, with six shots on goal to the visitors' four.
Belle Dehner (Cottage Grove/Monona Grove),
Ariana Gonzalez (Appleton/Appleton North) and
Jaden LeRoy (Evansville/Evansville) all attempted shots before the first Lion had an attempt.
Dehner paced the Titans with four total shots (one on goal). Gonzalez, Edwards, Knoebel, LeRoy and
Taylin Heiman (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) followed with two shots. Both of Knoebel's went on goal while Edwards had one.
Dehner and Knoebel added assists in the match.
Larissa Likes (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) faced four shots and made one save.
Both Oshkosh and Mount St. Joseph were awarded three corner kicks.
The Lions scored their first goal in the 26th minute and added another four minutes later, holding a 2-0 edge after 45 minutes. They added their third and final goal in the 60th minute but were held to just one shot on goal across the last 30 minutes of play.
Knoebel broke up the shutout in the 83rd minute, taking a long ball by
Maddie Daigle (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy) downfield and kicking the ball into the top left corner of the net.
Edwards brought the score within a goal in the 88th minute on the double assist from Dehner and Knoebel, kicking the ball out of the air and above the goalkeeper's head for her first goal of the season.
The Titans took one more shot before time expired when a shot from Edwards missed above the crossbar.
The Titans will host Macalester College (Minn.) (0-1) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium at noon on Sunday (Sept. 6). The teams have met twice before, and both matches ended in a tie on the Scots' home field. The 2006 matchup ended in a 1-1 double overtime score, and the 2022 tally went scoreless in 90 minutes.
