REEDSBURG, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's golf team took fourth in the three day (Oct. 4-6)
2024 WIAC Championship (Presented by Culver's), the best team finish since finishing third in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 championships, led by two Titans ranking in the top-10.
Oshkosh shot a 320 on Friday, a 336 on Saturday and a 333 on Sunday. Leading the Titans' 989-stroke effort (125-over par) were
Ava Downie (Fifth • Hortonville) and
Taryn Endres (Jr. • Windsor).
Downie finished the league meet with 242 total strokes (26-over par), good for a fifth place tie with UW-Whitewater's Ellie Johnson. She led UW-Oshkosh at the meet for the third straight year and earned her first top-10 finish.
Taryn Endres tied for ninth with Warhawk Payton Schmidt with 244 strokes (28-over par).
Sydney Bornhorst (Sr. • Grayslake, Ill.) was the Titans' third-best finisher, recording 250 strokes (34-over par), tying for 16th.
Chloe Strunk (Fr. • Waukesha) tied for 27th with 255 strokes (39-over par),
Hailey Matenaer (Jr. • West Bend) tied for 37th with 260 (44-over par),
Kylie Herrin (Jr. • Orland Park, Ill.) tied for 39th with 261 (45-over par),
Alyssa Dreher (Sr. • Campbellsport) grabbed 51st with 271 (55-over par),
Josie Hofer (Sr. • Menominee, Mich.) finished 53rd with 274 (58-over par) and
Sophia Steel (Jr. • Hoffman Estates, Ill.) took 72nd with 303 (87-over par).
UW-Whitewater won its seventh consecutive league title and 10th overall with 958 strokes (94-over par), followed by UW-Stout with 967 strokes (103-over par) and UW-La Crosse with 976 (112-over par). After the Titans, UW-Platteville took fifth at 1,014 (150-over par), UW-Eau Claire sixth at 1,020 (156-over par), UW-River Falls at 1,039 (175-over par) and UW-Stevens Point at 1,065 (201-over par).
Stout's Julia Imai won medalist honors by registering just 229 strokes over three days, including a par 72 strokes on Friday, marking the second consecutive year a Blue Devil earned the top position at the WIAC Championship.
Dreher was Oshkosh's representative on the WIAC's all-sportsmanship team. Sophia Connett, head coach of the Blue Devils, was named Kwik Trip Coach of the Year and UW-Whitewater's Ellie Johnson earned the Judy Kruckman Scholar Athlete award.
