STEVENS POINT, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's track and field team traveled to Stevens Point for the highly anticipated WIAC Championship on Friday (Feb. 28), which features the top four teams from last year's NCAA Division III Indoor Championship meet. After the first day, the Titans are in fourth place with 30.5 points. UW-La Crosse leads with 110 points.
The first four events of the heptathlon kicked off the competition. After the first day,
Aden Sears (Sr. • Eureka, Ill.) leads with a score of 3,009 points.
Christian Thompson (Fr. • Milwaukee) isn't far behind, sitting in third with 2,893, and
Matthew Scholbe (Jr. • Muskego) is currently eighth with 2,715.
The 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash had their preliminary rounds Friday. Advancing in the hurdles to the finals are
Brady Larson (Fr. • Maroa, Ill.),
Daniel Wilson (Fr. • Sun Prairie), and
Cavan Dobberstein (So. • Manawa). Wilson posted the fourth fastest preliminary time with 8.30 seconds. Larson claimed the fifth fastest with 8.32 seconds and Dobberstein had the seventh fastest time at 8.37 seconds. In the 60-meter dash,
Davian Willems (Jr. • De Pere) improved his personal best to set the second fastest time in Division III history with at 6.66-second finish, and currently sits in second overall.
Londyn Little (Jr. • Columbia, Ill.),
Danny Vinson (Fifth • Berrien Spring, Mich.), and
Joey Kean (Fifth • Middleton) also advanced to the final. Little claimed the third fastest time with 6.79 seconds, Vinson ran the fifth fastest with 6.83 seconds, and Kean ran the sixth fastest with 6.85 seconds.
The distance medley relay team finished in third place with a time of 10:20.25. The team consisted of
Bennett Midthun (Fr. • Fond du Lac) running the 1,200-meter,
Ryan Potter (Jr. • Oak Creek) running the 400-meter,
Lucas Nicholson (So. • Pewaukee) running the 800-meter, and
Xavier Lasee (Grad. • Fond du Lac) running the mile.
In the field,
Joshua Rivers (Jr. • Bolingbrook, Ill.) was the first Titan to claim an individual WIAC title, winning the long jump with a 7.50-meter mark. Dobberstein finished in fourth place with a jump of 7.14 meters and Little took in sixth with a jump of 6.91 meters.
Kieran Maude (Jr. • Palatine, Ill.) finished in seventh in the shot put with a throw of 15.36 meters.
Zach Zirgibel (Sr. • Merton) took fourth in the pole vault, with a vault of 4.76 meters.
The Titans continue the competition on Saturday (Mar. 1), looking to claim their seventh conference indoor title and the second in the last four years.
