Groose Inducted Into USTFCCCA Division III Collegiate Hall Of Fame

NEW ORLEANS- There have been dozens of All-Americans in the history of UW-Oshkosh men's track & field. Matt Groose collected 10 All-America awards, the most of any Titan. Groose was inducted into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Collegiate Hall of Fame on Wednesday (April 8).

Groose left a lasting mark on NCAA Division III middle distance history in the early 2000s. Between 2001 and 2002, Groose won four of the six 800-meter titles contested at the Division III Indoor and Outdoor Championships. His winning time of 1:49.73 at the 2002 indoor championship remains the flat track meet record and his outdoor personal best of 1:48.55 ranked him third on the Division III all-time chart. Groose also earned a fifth NCAA title and 12 WIAC crowns during his legendary career.

Groose is joined in the 2026 class by Patrick Ahern from former Division III member institution St. Thomas University (Minn.), Rahiem Greenbridge from Wheaton College (Mass.), Kim (Marino) Kryscnski from Stockton University (N.J.), Carter Hamill from Amherst College (Mass.) and Shea'na Grigsby-Taylor from Carthage College.

Groose is the eighth former Titan student-athlete to be inducted into the USTFCCCA Division III Collegiate Hall of Fame, joining seven other UW-Oshkosh Athletics Hall of Fame members.

Melissa Mueller (2004), Laura (Horejs) Lambert (2006), Stephanie (Bostwick) Resch (2007), Melissa (Oleson) Tassone (2010), Robyn Jarocki-Hughes (2017), Elizabeth (Woodworth) Kujawa (2023) and Christy Cazzola (2025) were each inducted into the national hall of fame in the past.

Legendary head coach of the Titans' women's cross country and track & field programs for more than 30 years, Deb Vercauteren, was enshrined into the USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006. Vercauteren's husband John Zupanc, a highly successful head coach of the UW-Oshkosh men's cross country and track & field coach in his own right, was named to the coaches hall of fame in 2012.

The USTFCCCA is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. The organization represents over 11,000 coaching members encompassing 98-percent of all NCAA track & field programs (DI, DII, and DIII) and includes members representing the NAIA and NJCAA, as well as a number of state high school coaches' associations. The USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as an activist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.
