ROCK ISLAND, Ill.- Taryn Endres (Windsor/DeForest) led the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team to a second-place finish at the Augustana College Highland Championship on Sunday and Monday (August 31-September 1) by winning the individual title, the first in her collegiate career and the first for the Titans since 2019.
Â
The Titans finished second out of 13 teams at Highland Springs Golf Course, scoring 617 strokes total (306 on Sunday, and 311 on Monday). They team was a total of 41 strokes over par, only three strokes behind Augustana's 614 (38 over par). All six of their golfers placed in the top 25 of a 68-golfer field.
Â
With a team score of 306 strokes on Sunday, UW-Oshkosh submitted the second-lowest single round card in program history. Oshkosh hit 306 strokes at the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational on September 20, 2003, and bested the previous program best at the same meet with 304 strokes on September 16, 2017. The Titans are headed back to Bloomington, Illinois for the first time since 2017 to compete in Illinois Wesleyan's fall invitational on September 13-14.
Â
The Titans' exceptional play was highlighted by Endres' individual victory. After recording 76 strokes with two birdies on Saturday, she set her personal best of 71 strokes on day two, including four birdies, and finished three strokes over par across the two days. She improved on last season's performance in the same meet by four places and eight strokes.
Â
This is the first time the Titans have had an individual meet champion since the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season when two golfers won the top spot in a pair of meets. Erika Priebe won the UW-Oshkosh Titan Fall Classic on August 31-September 1, and Nikki Differt won the UW-Stevens Point Mad Dawg Invite on September 28-29.
Â
Sophia Eggert (Shawano/Shawano Community) finished tied for second individually, scoring eight strokes over par total over the two days. The first-year Titan's play was emphasized by an even round on day one with five birdies.
Â
Rylie Severson (Green Bay/Ashwaubenon) finished 10th overall, totaling 14 strokes over par (158 total strokes). Tying for 13th were both
Sydney Bornhorst (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) and
Chloe Young (Waukesha/Bay Port). They earned the placement with 16 strokes over par (160 strokes).
Hailey Matenaer (West Bend/West Bend East) rounded out UW-Oshkosh's lineup in 21st place, scoring 23 strokes over par (167 strokes).
Â
The Titans continue their season this Friday (September 5) as they head to Hartford for the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational at Washington Country Golf Course.
