Sperry Hired As Flag Football Defensive Coordinator

OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's flag football head coach Deante Jefferson announced on Monday (Aug. 10) that Drew Sperry has joined his staff as the defensive coordinator.

"I am super excited for Drew to join our program," head coach Deante Jefferson said. "He brings experience and knowledge that will help elevate this team and prepare us for what's ahead. Drew has the ability to help our young women grow into elite flag football players. He's passionate and wants to continue the long-standing dominance that UWO has in athletics."

Sperry is no stranger to UW-Oshkosh as he is entering his 15th season with Titans football and ninth season as the safeties coach this fall.

"I am excited to join the women's flag football staff here at UW-Oshkosh," Sperry said. "Having graduated from UW-Oshkosh and coaching football for the Titans for 15 years, I developed a great passion for Titan Athletics and helping young athletes succeed on and off the field. The opportunity to help grow the sport of women's flag football and make a positive impact on the lives of our student-athletes is special to me and what makes it even more special is that I get to do it at UW-Oshkosh!"

Sperry, who began as an assistant linebackers coach in 2011, has helped guide Oshkosh to four WIAC championships and five appearances in the NCAA Division III Championship, including a trip to the Stagg Bowl in 2016. In his tenure at Oshkosh, he has helped develop 13 athletes that has collected 22 All-WIAC First or Second Team honors. A further four have collected five All-Region and five All-America mentions.

Taking the opportunity to pursue coaching in his hometown, Sperry left the Titans' coaching staff in 2020 to serve as the defensive coordinator at Evansville High School, a member of the WIAA's Division 3. He returned to Oshkosh in 2021 and resumed his duties as safeties coach.

Sperry graduated from UW-Oshkosh in 2019 with his bachelor's degree in history.
