Colby College (Maine) dominated three singles matches and took the other two in overtime to gain an 8-1 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team on Tuesday (March 22) in Orlando, Fla.
The Titans (7-5) received their only point from a walk over at #1 singles. Both the second and third singles flights were competitive, as Brianna Theobald (Fr. • Manitowoc) fell to Katie Brezinski by a 4-6, 6-4 (10-8) count. In flight #3, Sarah Wiener took down Lauren Piotrowski (Fr. • Greendale), 6-0, 4-6 (10-2).
Piotrowski and Emily Bostwick (Jr. • Whitefish Bay) put up a fight in their #1 doubles match, falling to Brezinski and Katie Muto in an 8-6 battle. The third flight featured an 8-5 win for Alex McAuliff and Anna Zieba over Megan Etten (Fr. • Howard) and Megan Saari (Fr. • Oshkosh). Theobald and Valerie Langkau (Fr. • Oshkosh) then were defeated, 8-3, by Kathryn Vergeyle and Sarah Wiener.
Mckenzie Love posted the day's only perfect result (6-0, 6-0), topping Andrea Larson (Fr. • Hartland) at #6 singles. The Mules rounded out the day with Sally Holmes' 6-1, 6-3 win over Etten in the fifth flight and Vergeyle's 6-1, 6-1 triumph against Langkau in the sixth.
UW-Oshkosh is set to take on Augustana College (S.D.) on Wednesday (March 23) in Orlando.
