Titans Write Down Wins Over Royals, Pointers

Bailey Sagen and Brianna Theobald went undefeated in both singles and doubles play to lead the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team past Bethel University (Minn.) and UW-Stevens Point on Saturday (Sept. 20) in Stevens Point.

UW-Oshkosh (2-5/1-1 WIAC) won all six singles contests to post an 8-1 victory over Bethel University (0-2) in the opener. The Titans then swept all three doubles matches to register a 6-3 triumph over UW-Stevens Point (4-2/1-2 WIAC).

Competing at No. 2 singles, Sagen recorded 6-2, 6-1 victories over Abby Kreklau of Bethel University and Hayley Schlueter of UW-Stevens Point. She also teamed with Erica Van Riper at No. 1 doubles to mark wins of 8-0 over Kreklau and Kristin Vivian of Bethel University and 8-3 over Schlueter and Katelyn Asfeld of UW-Stevens Point.

Theobald earned her individual wins by defeating Larissa Voss of Bethel University, 6-4, 7-5, and Rosie Buckley of UW-Stevens Point, 6-1, 6-1, in the third flight. At No. 2 doubles, Theobald paired with Kimberlyn Fernez to defeat Emily Bauer and Abby Palmquist of Bethel University and Llora Waldman to oust Kristen Finstad and Molly Hendries of UW-Stevens Point by 8-4 scores.

UW-Oshkosh obtained its remaining victories against the Royals in singles play, as Van Riper won in the first flight, Waldman in the second, Paige Ganser in the third and Hannah Bostwick in the sixth.

Van Riper defeated Vivian, 6-2, 6-4, while Waldman outlasted Maddy Simpson, 6-1, 4-6, 10-2, and Ganser edged Mattie Kidder, 2-6, 6-4, 12-10, Bostwick slipped by Palmquist with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 decision.

The lone Bethel University victory came at No. 3 doubles, where Kidder and Simpson defeated Bostwick and Maggie Bolton, 8-6.

Against UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh completed its sweep of the doubles matches with a 9-7 victory by Bolton and Bostwick over Abbey Johnson and Erin Lemmer in the third flight. Bostwick also defeated Finstad by a 6-0, 6-1 score at No. 6 singles.

The Pointers picked up their three team points on individual wins by Asfeld in the first flight, Lemmer in the fourth and Hendries in the fifth.

Asfeld defeated Van Riper, 6-1, 6-2, while Lemmer ousted Waldman, 6-4, 3-6, 10-3. Hendries trimmed Ganser by a 3-6, 6-1,10-4 result.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Ashwaubenon next Saturday (Sept. 27) for matches against Lawrence University and host St. Norbert College.
