Michelle Spicer won her No. 1 singles contest and Alyssa Pattee contributed victories at both No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles as the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team defeated Marian University to earn a split of its two matches played Sunday (Oct. 17) at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Tennis Courts.
UW-Oshkosh lost a 9-0 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference decision to UW-Stout in the opener before defeating Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference member Marian University, 8-1, in the nightcap.
During UW-Oshkosh's win over Marian University, Spicer outscored the Sabres' Carly Paulson in their No. 1 singles contest, 6-0, 6-3.
Pattee opened her activity against the Sabres by teaming with Hannah Stitt to defeat Abby Okon and Katrina Pokorny, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles. Pattee then outlasted Aeryn Olson, 6-3, 2-6 (10-4) at No. 2 singles while Stitt earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Pokorny at No. 4 singles.
UW-Oshkosh's other individual winners on the court against Marian University were Jenna Nolde in the third flight and Alessandra Rivera in the fifth. Both Titans won by 6-2, 6-0 scores, with Nolde defeating Okon and Rivera ousting Julia Loomans.
UW-Oshkosh (2-8, 0-6 WIAC) also received a pair of forfeit victories from the Sabres. Earning the wins for the Titans were Rivera and Jade Schwichow at No. 3 doubles and Schwichow at No. 6 singles.
The lone Marian University (3-11) win came from Olson and Paulson at No. 1 doubles. The tandem defeated Nolde and Spicer of the Titans by an 8-6 result.
Against UW-Stout (5-5, 2-4 WIAC), Spicer, Pattee and Nolde turned in strong individual performances for the Titans.
Spicer lost a 6-2, 7-5 decision to Lauren Couves in the first flight while Pattee suffered a 6-4, 6-2 defeat to Annie Sandry in the second. Nolde was ousted by Ellie Becker in the third flight, 6-3, 6-2.
Other UW-Stout individual winners were Mariah Kent in the fourth flight, Anna Kent in the fifth and Kyrstin Hanson in the sixth.
Mariah Kent defeated Stitt, 6-2, 6-0, while Anna Kent beat Rivera, 6-1, 6-0. Hanson was every game during her 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Schwichow.
In doubles play, UW-Oshkosh's Nolde and Spicer lost an 8-4 result to Couves and Sandry in the first flight.
The Blue Devils won the other two doubles flights on wins of 8-3 by Becker and Mariah Kent over Pattee and Stitt in the second and 8-0 by Anna Kent and Kylie Rennie over Rivera and Schwichow in the third.
UW-Oshkosh will compete at the WIAC Championship this weekend in Madison. Action begins at 1 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 23) and 9 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 24) from the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
