Titans Collect Two Second-Place Finishes At Wisconsin Collegiate Individual Championships

Jameson Gregory (left) and Kayla Gibbs (right) were one of two Oshkosh doubles teams to place second in their respective brackets on Sunday

MADISON, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's tennis claimed a pair of second-place finishes in doubles competition during the Wisconsin Collegiate Individual Championships at Division I Wisconsin's Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 26).

Kayla Gibbs (Muskego/Muskego) and Jameson Gregory (Delavan/Big Foot) started their day at No. 2 doubles with a 6-4 win over UW-River Falls' Mykela Hanson and Emma Yanish and beat Ashley Adkisson and Megan Griswold from UW-Whitewater, 6-3, in the semifinal round to reach the championship match. The duo was outscored, 6-1, by UW-La Crosse's Hannah Cady and Maia Samuelson and settled for the runner-up position.

At No. 3 doubles, Sarah Schaeffer (Rock Springs/Reedsburg) and Brianna Owens (Appleton/Kimberly) surrendered just two games across their wins over Avery Watzke and Felicity Fischer from River Falls and Julia Nill and Abigail McIsaac from Whitewater before falling to the Eagles' Izzy Brinkman and Emma Kappel, 6-3, in the title bout.

Olivia Pethan (Oshkosh/Fox Valley Lutheran) and Courtney Carpenter (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) bested UW-Eau Claire's Beatriz Felchak and Liv Herzog by a score of 7-5 in the first round of the No. 1 doubles draw to even the season series at one match apiece. The partners from Eau Claire had won over the Titans in extra sets in Oshkosh on October 4. Pethan and Carpenter were defeated by UW-Stevens Point's Chloe Regal and Annie Wierzbicki, 6-2 in the following match and dropped a 6-2 decision to Warhawks Abby Weaver and Crystina Lee in the third-place match.

Mana Usui (Franklin/Franklin) paced Oshkosh over in singles competition, taking third place in the top flight. She won over Sydney Weiner from River Falls by a score of 4-2, 4-3 (4) and beat Pointer Tristin Jantz, 4-2, 4-0 in the third-place match after dropping out of the winner's bracket with a 4-3 (5), 4-2 loss to Shelby Roth from La Crosse in the semifinal round.

Bre Schultz (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and Cate Gerl (Joliet, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) took fourth in the No. 2 and No. 3 brackets, respectively. Schultz won over Stevens Point's Ellie Aitken, 4-3 (5), 4-1, and Gerl beat River Falls' Audrey Ladewig, 4-1, 0-4, 10-6, before both lost to the eventual bracket champion in their semifinal matches and dropped the third-place matches.

The meet took the place of the WIAC Tournament, which had historically crowned the league's individual flight champions. The conference-affiliated tournament was discontinued after the 2024-25 season in favor of a team tournament-only format.
