Titans Selected As ITA All-Academic Team; Seven Named Scholar Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz.- UW-Oshkosh women's tennis earned all-academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on July 23 while seven student-athletes earned individual scholar athlete honors.
 
Courtney Carpenter (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West), Cate Gerl (Joliet, Ill./Lincoln-Way West), Kayla Gibbs (Muskego/Muskego), Olivia Nielsen (Oshkosh/Lourdes Academy), Brianna Owens (Appleton/Kimberly), Alysa Pattee (Waupun/Waupun), and Olivia Pethan (Oshkosh/Fox Valley Lutheran) represented Oshkosh on the scholar athlete list. Carpenter and Pattee earned the honor for the third year; Gibbs, Nielsen, and Pethan were named scholar athletes for the second time; and both Gerl and Owens were tabbed for the award for the first time.
 
Carpenter, a medical imaging major, went 9-6 overall in doubles competition this season with a 7-3 mark in dual meets. She also posted a 2-2 record in singles play.
 
Gerl went 6-5 in doubles (5-3 dual record) and won her only singles match of the season. She is an exercise science major.
 
Gibbs is a physical education major who competed in all of UW-Oshkosh's meets this season. She went 10-6 in overall doubles competition and 8-2 in duals including a 7-2, 5-1 mark with Mana Usui (Franklin/Franklin). In singles play, she went 7-4 overall and 6-3 in dual play.
 
Nielsen, majoring in rehabilitation science, played in just one match this season, beating her opponent from Ripon College, 6-2, 6-3.
 
Owens went 7-9 overall and 6-7 in duals in singles competition and 11-7 (9-4 dual record) with three partners this season. She is majoring in accounting and finance.
 
Pattee, a rehabilitation science major, posted an 8-7 (8-4 dual record) doubles mark and went 8-5 (7-4 dual record) in singles play this year. Her most common doubles partner was Pethan, who she went 8-4 win in duals.
 
An accounting major, Pethan's only double partner was Pattee. Ins singles competition, she posted an overall mark of 10-5 and went 8-4 in dual play.
 
In 2024-25, the Titans went 9-5 overall and posted a 303 mark in the WIAC. The program placed fifth at the WIAC Championship in October. Carpenter, Gibbs, Pattee, and Pethan were tabbed as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees in May.
 
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
 
UW-Oshkosh's seven award winners were among 1,269 tennis players recognized from NCAA Division III schools, including 35 others from the WIAC (seven from UW-La Crosse, nine from UW-River Falls, eight from UW-Stevens Point, and 11 from UW-Whitewater).
 
The Titans were one of 165 programs named All-Academic. UW-La Crosse, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, and UW-Whitewater were also on the list from the WIAC.
 
To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letterwinners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
