Fischer Stepping Down As Head Women’s Basketball Coach

OSHKOSH, Wis.- After 14 highly successful seasons at the helm of the UW-Oshkosh women's basketball program, Brad Fischer will depart Oshkosh to pursue a coaching opportunity at the NCAA Division I level.

The winningest head coach in program history and the fifth-winningest coach in the history of WIAC women's basketball, Fischer concluded his career in Oshkosh with a 315-80 (.797) overall record and a 145-48 (.751) mark in WIAC competition. He led the Titans to 13 consecutive 20-win full seasons, the first WIAC head basketball coach to accomplish the feat regardless of gender. He was named the WIAC Coach of the Year a record-tying six times (2013, 2017, 2019, 2024, 2025, 2026), D3hoops.com Region Coach of the Year three times (2014, 2021, 2025) and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Region Coach of the Year once (2019).

Besides the pandemic-shortened 2021 campaign (9-2; WIAC regular season and tournament champion), the fewest wins Oshkosh collected under Fischer was 20. The Titans averaged 23.5 wins per season and went 28-4 this winter on their way to their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Semifinal Round. The 28 wins were the most since the 31-0 1996 Division III national championship team and the losses were the fewest in a full season since the 27-2 1999 national quarterfinal team.

"On behalf of UW-Oshkosh, I want to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to Brad for the extraordinary impact he has had on our women's basketball program, our student-athletes, and our university since he came to Oshkosh," UW-Oshkosh Assistant Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Darryl Sims said. "Brad's accomplishments speak for themselves. He transformed our program into one of the premier women's basketball programs in Division III, but what makes Brad truly special is the way he developed young women into leaders, professionals and champions in life.

While we are certainly saddened to see Brad leave Oshkosh, we are equally excited for this next chapter in his career and wish him nothing but continued success. Opportunities to advance to the Division I level are a testament to the respect Brad has earned throughout collegiate basketball and a reflection of the exceptional work he has done here at UW-Oshkosh."

Fischer arrived in Oshkosh in the spring of 2012 and inherited a team had not posted a winning record or finished above fifth in the league standings since 2006; a long way from the perennial Division III Championship contender of the 1990s. The Titans won 20 games in Fischer's first season and finished second in the WIAC in 2013 before winning the WIAC Tournament title and returning to the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time since 2000 in 2014, eventually advancing to the third round of the national tournament.

"It's hard to put into words what UW-Oshkosh has meant to me and my family," Fischer said. "Over the last 14 years, this place has become home. It's where I met my wife, where I built lifelong friendships, and where I had the privilege of coaching remarkable young women who made me a much better coach and person every day.

I am truly grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey—Jill Endries and the search committee that first gave me this opportunity, Darryl Sims, our sports information staff, athletic trainers, assistant coaches and all the people behind the scenes who helped make our program special. Most importantly and above all, I want to thank our players. Every player who ever said yes to be a Titan and lived that standard. The relationships we've built and the memories we've shared will stay with me forever."

Oshkosh added additional league tournament titles in 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2020 while winning the conference's regular season championship five times (2019, 2021, 2024, 2025, 2026).

Across 11 national tournament appearances the Titans made under Fischer's leadership, they finished their season in the second round three times (2015, 2016, 2023), the third round five times (2014, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2024), the quarterfinal round once (2022) and the semifinal round twice (2025, 2026). Following his first season, Oshkosh only missed the national tournament once, going 21-6 in 2018 and making the WIAC Tournament championship game.

Under Fischer, 15 Titans were named to the All-WIAC First Team 25 times, three were voted as the WIAC Player of the Year four times, two were tabbed as the league's newcomer of the year, and four earned Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.

Ten student-athletes earned 16 all-region nods. Current Titan Paige Seckar (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) was the first in program history to be named D3hoops.com Region Rookie of the Year in 2025, set another program first this winter when she collected region player of the year honors.

At the national level, six Titans have been named an All-American 17 times.

A member of the WBCA's Academic Top-25 Honor Roll three times since 2013 (2014, 2018, 2025), Titans have collected College Sports Communicators Academic All-District laurels 12 times under Fischer's tutelage.

"For 14 years, I gave everything I had to this university, this program, and the young women who wore our uniform," Fischer added. "In return, UW-Oshkosh gave me far more than I could ever repay. While I am excited for this next chapter, I leave with a tremendous amount of gratitude. UW-Oshkosh has had a lasting impact on my life, and a piece of my heart will always be here."

A national search for the Titans' next head women's basketball coach will begin as soon as possible. Day-to-day operations will be managed by Darryl Sims (sims@uwosh.edu) and Abby Gildernick (gildernicka@uwosh.edu) and questions about the women's basketball program can be sent to both.
