Owens, Pethan Finish Fourth At Warhawk Invitational

Box Score WHITEWATER, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's tennis traveled south on Saturday (Sept. 5) to compete in the 55th Annual Warhawk Invitational at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex on the UW-Whitewater campus.
 
As one of eight teams to take the courts in Whitewater, the Titans finished the day with 12 team points, with Grinnell College (Iowa) securing the team title for a second straight year with 50 team points.
 
Brianna Owens (Appleton/Kimberly) and Olivia Pethan (Oshkosh/Fox Valley Lutheran) picked up the first doubles match victory of the season for the Titans, defeating Luther College (Iowa) representatives Maddie Rowden and Alejandra Villanueva Rodriguez, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles. The duo then fell to Grinnell's Margot Groundwater and Eliana Martin, 8-2 in the semifinals. The third-place matchup went into a tiebreaker round, where a 7-5 loss saw the two lose the match to Carthage College's Rya Arreazola and Greta Peterson by a score of 8-7.
 
Taylor Longdin (Slinger/Slinger) and Peyton Peterson (Sheboygan Falls/Sheboygan Falls) also racked a doubles victory during the day in the third flight. After losing their opening round matchup to host Warhawks' Isheeta Midha and Julia Nill, 8-3, the two secured the win, 8-1, over Augustana College's (Ill.) Allison France and Leah Kitterman. Longdin and Peterson's day would come to a close in the consolation championship after being defeated, 8-3, by Ella Krauter and Sabina Skudrnova of Carthage.

Top flight duo Kayla Gibbs (Muskego/Muskego) and Jameson Gregory (Delavan/Big Foot) opened their day on the court by dropping a 8-4 decision to UW-Eau Claire's Delaney Hanson and Reese Keller, before being held scoreless by Carthage's Kamila Dobija and Niki Manojlovic, 8-0. 
 
No. 1 singles action saw Sarah Schaeffer (Rock Springs/Reedsburg) drop both of her matches on the court. Schaefer was shutout, 6-0, 6-0, against Grinnell's Pari Chavan in the opening round, and dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Augustana's Maripaz Ramirez.
 
Sophie Gish (West Bend/West Bend West) suffered the same fate in the second flight for the Titans, losing a 6-0, 6-0 decision to UW-La Crosse's Caitlyn Stadler, before being handed a 6-3, 6-0 defeat by Estefania Alejandra Casillas Velasco of Augustana.
 
Stepping onto the court for the first time this season, Olivia Nielsen (Oshkosh/Lourdes Academy) lost in the opening round of No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0, to Colleen Larry of Augustana. In the consolation bracket, Nielson suffered a 6-3, 6-3 defeat against Luther's Jarlyne Felix.
 
The Titans return home on Tuesday (Sept. 8) to host Lawrence University at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Tennis Courts at 2 p.m. Oshkosh took home the victory in the 2025 matchup between the two programs, 6-1, and have also won eight of their last ten meetings with the Vikings.
