When two-time All-American Ron Dworak suited up for his first UW-Oshkosh wrestling match in 1971, the team was fairly new and had only been established for seven years as an intercollegiate sport. Dworak brought the sport into the spotlight with his guidance and leadership.
Â
In his freshman year in 1971, the Denmark High School graduate placed second in the WSUC Championship to help the Titans to a second-place finish. He also made the first of his four appearances at the NAIA Championship.
Â
As a sophomore in 1972, Dworak began to really bring the heat. Dworak dominated the Carthage College Invitational, won the 142-pound weight class at the WSUC Championship and again qualified for the NAIA Championship.
Â
By tweaking his technique and experimenting with different weight classes in 1973, Dworak became the third UW-Oshkosh wrestler to earn NAIA All-America status, capturing honorable mention honors. At this national meet, Dworak wrestled to a fifth-place finish in the 142-pound weight class. Also in 1973, Dworak won the St. Cloud State University Invitational, the Graceland College Invitational and the WSUC Championship in the 150-pound weight class.
Â
As captain of the team, Dworak led the 1973 Titans to a third-place at the WSUC Championship. These accomplishments earned Dworak the selection as UW-Oshkosh’s Most Valuable Wrestler.
Â
In his senior year in 1974, Dworak remained the team captain and returned to the 142-pound weight class and won his third consecutive WSUC crown. Dworak’s fourth and final appearance at the NAIA Championship earned him a bronze medal and All-America status. He again was named UW-Oshkosh’s Most Valuable Wrestler.
Â
Dworak remained at UW-Oshkosh as a volunteer assistant wrestling coach until graduating from the school with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1976.
Â
After leaving UW-Oshkosh, Dworak assumed the position of head wrestling coach and physical education teacher at Weyauwega-Fremont High School in 1977 to 1980.
Â
Since 1982, Dworak has lived in Appleton with his wife, Suellen, and two daughters, Annie and Laura. Dworak currently works as a stock broker for the brokerage firm of RBC Dain Rauscher.
