Dean Austin played four seasons for the UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team from 1960-63. He helped the Titans to the WIAC championship in 1963 and visits to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Tournament in both 1960 and 1963.

Austin concluded his UW-Oshkosh career with a school-record 972 rebounds. He also ranks ninth in UW-Oshkosh history with 1,398 career points.

In 1963, Austin earned NAIA All-America second team honors after averaging 21.6 points and 14 rebounds per contest. Austin scored at least 37 points in a game twice during his career, including 40 in a contest against UW-Milwaukee during the 1960-61 season. He also collected 29 rebounds in a game against St. Norbert College during the 1961-62 campaign.

After graduating from UW-Oshkosh, Austin earned his master’s degree in physical education from the University of Wisconsin. The Mount Horeb High School graduate obtained his doctorate degree from the University of Utah.

Austin was the director of athletics at UW-Green Bay from 1970-73. He also coached men's tennis, taught physical education classes and served as the director of the school's intramural and recreation programs. Previously, Austin coached and taught physical education classes at Northland College and Milwaukee Technical High School.

Austin passed away at the age of 69 on June 29, 2011 in Lincoln, Neb.
