Russ Young was inducted in the meritorious service category. He retired this spring following 17 years on the UW-Oshkosh coaching staff.
 
He came to Oshkosh as an assistant football and basketball coach in 1959. He got his first head coaching job with the Titans in 1962, taking control of the basketball team. During his three years as head coach, the Titans compiled an impressive conference record of 24-12, while winning 34 games and losing 31, overall. His 1963-64 team advanced to the NAIA national tournament in Kansas City.
 
After four years as an assistant in football, Young moved to the head football position in 1963. His 1968 team captured Oshkosh’s first WSUC football championship in 35 years. He later added title in 1972 and 1976. His overall record stands at 68-63-2. He also served as head track coach in 1964.

Young, a 1944 graduate of UW-Platteville, was inducted into the Pioneers' Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.
