Howard J. Hancock

Howard J. Hancock, former coach and athletic director at Oshkosh Normal School was inducted into the hall of fame as a Meritorious Service selection.

Director of Athletics Jim Flood said, "It is a distinct pleasure to honor coach Hancock with induction into our Hall of Fame. As our first professional coach and athletic director he guided our entire sports program during the very successful 1920s."

In later years, Hancock went on to distinguish himself as on the the nation's most notable athletic directors, serving as the athletic director at Illinois Normal School (now Illinois State) from 1931-63. He also served stints as the head football, baseball, and men's tennis coach. The Redbirds' current football stadium, opened in 1963, was named after Hancock. He was inducted into the Illinois State Percy Family Hall of Fame in 1972.
