Starting 83 of the 111 games that she played in at center, Wendy Wangerin was a performer that the UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team coveted and one that opponents had to reckon with.

The Waukesha South High School graduate played for the Titans from 1993 to 1996. She helped UW-Oshkosh to an impressive 99-14 record, including a 31-0 mark in 1996 when the Titans captured the NCAA Division III title before nearly 4,000 fans in Kolf Sports Center.

Wangerin is UW-Oshkosh's all-time leading scorer with 1,743 career points. She also ranks third in school history with 813 career rebounds. In the history of the WIAC, Wangerin is listed fourth on the league's all-time scoring list.

The 1993 season was the first of four consecutive campaigns of averaging 11 points and seven rebounds per game for Wangerin. She averaged 11.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest while coming off the bench in 23 of 24 games. UW-Oshkosh posted a 16-8 record, including a 74-53 triumph over UW-Platteville in which Wangerin tallied 26 points and 19 rebounds. Wangerin received All-WIAC first team honors that season.

Wangerin picked up All-WIAC accolades again in 1994, posting averages of 12.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. The Titans compiled a 24-3 record while advancing to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Wangerin totaled 23 points and 10 rebounds as UW-Oshkosh notched a 74-55 victory against UW-Platteville.

In 1995, Wangerin received NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region and All-WIAC first team honors after leading the Titans to a 28-3 record and a second-place finish in the country. Wangerin averaged 19.2 points and 7.0 rebounds in her 31 games. During 26 of those contests, she reached double figures in points, including 34 in a 79-68 win over UW-Stout. The Titans lost a 59-55 decision to Capital University (Ohio) in the NCAA Division III championship game.

Wangerin was named the NCAA Division III Player of the Year during UW-Oshkosh's unbeaten national championship season in 1996. She averaged team-highs of 18 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while shooting 54 percent from the field. UW-Oshkosh finished off a perfect 31-0 season with a 66-50 win over Mount Union College (Ohio) in the national title game. Wangerin, who also received NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region and All-WIAC first team honors, had 26 points in wins against both UW-Platteville and UW-Stout that season. She was named the league's player of the year.

Wangerin, who helped the Titans to three WIAC basketball titles, also played women's softball for two seasons and women's golf for one at UW-Oshkosh.

In softball, she was the Titans' starting shortstop in both the 1996 and 1997 seasons. In 1996, Wangerin received NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region third team and All-WIAC first team honors after smashing five home runs and counting 38 runs batted in.

The following season, Wangerin acquired NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region and All-WIAC first team accolades after hitting .348 with three doubles and two home runs. Her performance helped the Titans to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Wangerin took her game to the links in 1996 as a part of the UW-Oshkosh golf team. The Titans finished third during their inaugural appearance at the WIAC Championship.

Wangerin, a 1997 graduate of UW-Oshkosh, lives in Coachella, Calif., where she is the assistant principal at Julius Corsini Elementary School.
